Crocodile

We often use the idiom 'Crocodile tears' to indicate the sorrow of someone who is not sincere. But do crocodiles cry in reality? And if they cry, is that due to their sorrow? Let's check out..

There has been an old belief that Crocodile cry while they eat. And there seems to be a reason behind their sorrow. Some feel that crocodiles feel remorse in killing other living things for food. The scientists from Florida University ventured to verify this belief. For their research they have trained some crocodiles to eat on land so that they could watch them closely while having a dinner. It would be surprising to know that these scientists indeed has found crocodiles crying while they are eating. But a further research has proved the second part of the story to be false. Crocodiles don't cry out of remorse. It's just an involuntary reaction.

As we all know crocodiles have complicated jaws, they have to wide open these jaws while having their food. During such process, the muscles that move their jaws seem to cause some stress on their tear glands and that's it... no remorse involved! This research has some good news for humans too! Because some people suffer with a peculiar disease called 'Crocodile Tear Syndrome.' Such people cry involuntarily while they eat. The research by Floridan scientists might show a way to cure such disease.
